I am passionate about mathematics and I am passionate about teaching! While my primary goal is your success in mathematics, it is also important to me to convey the awe and beauty contained in mathematics. To me it is a reflection of the very mind of God.

Knowledge!

I have not just taken all these classes, I have taught them all!* I do not just know the material, I understand its importance in the broader scope of future math classes and know which concepts are essential for future success. So, when time is limited, I know how to correctly prioritize the material.

*all high-school and college math courses except upper level probability and statistics for math majors.

Experience!

I have over 17 years teaching experience, did my undergraduate work in math education and received my teaching certification. This experience means I have encountered a wide variety of learning difficulties and devised ways to work within each students abilities to help them achieve their potential.

Understanding!

Have you ever worked with someone who was brilliant at what they did and could not understand why it was not obvious to you? Many assume that with my PhD in math I must have always been good at it. Not so! I had inferior teaching in early elementary and missed some foundational concepts. We moved to a better school when I was in 5th grade. Sadly, my teachers idea of motivation was to make everyone who flunked a test stand in front of the whole class. As a shy child this was devastating to me as I flunked every math test—except the last one. That D– was the most wonderful grade in the world to me! So I understand math phobia’s, I understand the frustration, the fears and the occasional tears. I was fortunate to have someone who helped me overcome this rough start and love to help others do the same thing!

Safety!

As a parent myself, I know that you want to know that you can safely leave your child with their tutor. Rather than leaving your child with a relative stranger in a library or coffee shop, you can be assured that they are safe in my home with my family and me. I have a large living room converted to a school room for this purpose. Upon request, I will confirm arrival and departure of your child so you will know where they are at all times. You may call the mathematics department at UT Tyler, where I worked for 7 years, for recommendations.
